Service Area — Austrian Motorway Coverage

The Austrian vignette covers all motorways (Autobahnen) and expressways (Schnellstraßen) in Austria, with the exception of certain special toll roads. Use our selection matrix for pricing.

Coverage by Region

Vienna (Wien)

Austria's capital and largest city. The A1 (West Autobahn), A2 (South Autobahn), A4 (East Autobahn), A21, A22, and A23 all require a valid vignette. The Vienna Ring Road (Stadtautobahn) is also covered.

Salzburg

Gateway to the Alps. The A1 (West Autobahn) and A10 (Tauern Autobahn) pass through Salzburg. Note: the Tauern Autobahn requires an additional special toll on top of the vignette.

Graz (Styria)

The A2 (South Autobahn) and A9 (Pyhrn Autobahn) serve Graz. The A9 requires an additional special toll for certain sections.

Innsbruck (Tyrol)

The A12 (Inn Valley Autobahn) and A13 (Brenner Autobahn) pass through Innsbruck. The A13 requires a separate toll for the Brenner section.

Linz (Upper Austria)

The A1 (West Autobahn) and A7 (Mühlkreis Autobahn) serve Linz. Standard vignette covers all sections in this area.

Klagenfurt (Carinthia)

The A2 (South Autobahn) and A9 (Pyhrn Autobahn) connect Klagenfurt. The Karawanken Tunnel to Slovenia requires a separate toll.

Vorarlberg

The A14 (Rhine Valley Autobahn) serves Vorarlberg. The Arlberg Road Tunnel requires a separate toll for transit between Vorarlberg and Tyrol.

Burgenland

The A2 (South Autobahn) and A3 serve Burgenland. Standard vignette applies throughout this region.

Local Nuances and Tips

The Vienna Ring Road (Stadtautobahn) is covered by the standard vignette — no separate toll required within the city.
Crossing from Austria into Germany via the A8 or A12 does not require a German vignette — Germany does not have a vignette system for passenger cars.
Crossing into Switzerland via the A14 requires a separate Swiss vignette (Autobahnvignette), which is different from the Austrian one.
The Brenner Pass route (A13) requires both the Austrian vignette AND a separate Brenner toll.
Some sections near border crossings have free zones where no vignette is required — check specific crossing points.
The Großglockner High Alpine Road is a scenic route that requires a separate entry fee — it is not a motorway and the vignette does not apply.
Rental cars hired in Austria typically include a valid vignette — always verify before purchasing your own.
If you are only driving on Bundesstraßen (federal roads, not motorways), you do not need a vignette.
